METALSMITHING / JEWELRY
OUR PROGRAM
The Metalsmithing and Jewelry program offers BA, BFA and MFA degrees emphasizing skilled craftsmanship, integrity of concept and design and an understanding of the history of metalwork and jewelry. SIUE offers a curriculum that addresses the full spectrum of processes necessary for the production of jewelry, functional objects, and small scale sculpture.
Current movements in metalworking, jewelry making, and fine art production have progressed beyond the strict use of traditional processes and techniques. The Metalwork/Jewelry program at SIUE has evolved accordingly, integrating contemporary media and methods with a strong foundation of long-established skill sets. We seek to encourage a continual evolution of student’s critical thinking skills as they are asked to consider relevant issues pertaining to their field of study.
